Hello,
In a few weeks , my husband and I are heading to Jackmon , Maine to go 4-wheeling with another couple. We are leaving a few days earlier and are looking to stop a place or two on the way up . We are coming from just South of Albany, NY . Ideally, we would like the ocean , but a place that isnt a Huge tourist location (if there is any) or a place on a lake to go kayaking. Any ideas up that way that isnt too far out of the route ?
Thanks!

well hello there, I am VERY familar with both those places as i grew up in utica, ny and currently live in portland, maine..so, albany to the maine toll both is only about a 4 hour drive, the biggest attractions along the way are boston and hampton beach in NH..the town of portsmouth is fun too and has alot of great breweries and pubs..all of southern maine is sandy ocean/beaches–you can choose from wells beach, oqgonquit beach, old orchard beach..or you can stay in portland to enjoy all the amenities it has to offer and make short daytrips to the beach–thats actually what I would do if i were you..stay in portland andf hang out in the Old Port (over 100 bars/restaurants) and drive either 30 minutes to popham beach or 15-40 minutes to old orchard or wells..you wouldn’t veer off your route from jackman at all…fyi, there is also plenty of whitewater rafting companies right on the way to jackman– the kennebec river and dead river are very popular whitewater rivers with many companies that do guided trips–they are only about an hour from jackman right on route 201–the road you take to jackman
